Wild at Heart Foundation

At Tales of Teddy we love to support positive action. Wild at Heart Foundation is the brainchild of two women who met while adopting puppies from the same litter of stray dogs rescued by a vet in Romania. Their shared concern over the plight of strays bought about a whole new charity venture.

Nikki Tibbles is the founder of celebrated florist and events company Wild at Heart. Nadine Kayser is head of communications for a management consultancy. Together they set up Wild at Heart Foundation. Partly funded by a donation of profits from the Wild at Heart business and partly funded by money raised though events, auctions and private donations, the proceeds go to support rescue projects, neutering programmes and education initiatives that aim to improve the lot of the world’s stray dog population.

Visit Wild at Heart Foundation and you’ll see pictures of adorable dogs of every age and breed from a variety of countries, all needing a forever home. Why so many dogs from abroad? “Although there is abuse and neglect in the UK,” says Nadine, “It is nothing in comparison to what I have seen abroad.” Re-homing a dog from another country can be suprisingly speedy – some adoptions are completed within a month.

The Foundation’s Success Stories are particularly heartwarming although Nikki emphasises, “Rehoming is the icing on the cake but the most important thing is to get to the root of the problem.” Since setting up the charity in May last year, as well as rehoming 270 dogs, they have neutered around 6-700 dogs. The Foundation has grand plans and a straightforward strategy: “Our mission is to neuter 100,000 dogs by 2020,” she says. “There are 600 million stray dogs across the world so adopting one without a home helps reduce this number and also reduces the reliance on the dreadful puppy farming industry.”

If you can give a stray dog a new home, and you would like to find out more about adorable Hamish (above) or other Wild at Heart Foundation dogs waiting patiently for their forever homes visit Wild at Heart Foundation.
